Audrey is a pianist. Charly is a human capitalist. Daniel is a percussionist. Daren is a gossip columnist. Richard was lucky and born into money. Ruth is a singer, Flash a saxophone player, and Vicky is just a player. Audrey is ambitious about her music, until meningococcal meningitis forces an apologetic doctor to amputate her fingers. Charly falls in love with Audrey, who is dating Daren, who wants to write for someone besides the Times. Vicky just got back from Paris to marry Richard for his money, but is sexually attracted to talent and never seems to be at home. Daniel met her yesterday and is in love with her already. Flash and Ruth have been in love forever, but it’s Flash who leaves Daniel alone to punch the living daylights out of Richard. And poor Ruth and has no fucking clue what is going on. But dear me! Talk like a moving-picture and the world is your oyster.
